AIM : To increase awareness among the students in the field of medicine to get a positive
understanding between the doctor, nurse, and patients in treating the patient. For providing
practical knowledge as a demonstration in the institutional set up itself without any barrier.
- 1. Our air-conditioned Nursing Foundation lab enables the students to gain adequate
knowledge regarding basic procedures through which the firm foundations of the
fundamentals of nursing will be laid down.
- 2. To nourish the foundation our spacious lab is well suited with patients many simulators
on which students will be taught the preliminary training of patient care.
- 3. The teacher demonstrates the procedure of an environment in the hospital set up.
- 4. The new students get direct experience to prepare themselves for hospital events.
- 5. To explain the basic concept of conceptual and theoretical models of nursing.
The heart of nursing is a skill-based practice. In the college of nursing, we have a very highly
functional advanced fundamental lab and it's organized as per INC norms. Our
Nursing
Foundation Lab is the practical area of the students, where they perform all nursing procedures
on manikin prior to the exposure to the clinical field. The lab is designed to help the students to
develop an understanding of the philosophy, objective, theories, and process of nursing in the
clinical setting. The primary goal of the Lab is to enhance the first-year nursing students' didactic
learning of nursing intervention concepts with the valuable opportunity of practicing them on
adult-sized "patients." In addition to scheduled College lab sessions, the lab is accessible for all
the students in the College of Nursing. This allows practice time for any student of some of the
most commonly performed fundamental skills in an acute care hospital setting. This lab is
fulfilled with lots of advanced functional articles and types of equipment like gastric lavage
gavage functional model, tracheotomy functional model, ET insertion, NG insertion, and
feeding, IM set functional model.
Our Fundamental Lab has the provision for Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)
and Objective Structured Practical Examination (OSPE)
FACILITIES : The lab is well furnished and well ventilated with all the necessary equipments like patient beds,
mattresses, bedsheets, O2 cylinder and stand, bedside locker, linens and blankets, napkins and
towels, bed cradle, cardiac table, wheelchair, stretcher, critical care unit(with O2 cylinder with
flow meter, CPR dummy and suction apparatus), different sizes procedure trays, and other
instruments. And all the equipment as per INC recognizes and enough for each nursing course.
The lab also contains the manikins of three adult males and females. There is one dummy of
hand with visible veins which we use to study the procedure of introducing IV cannula.
There are some charts prepared by the 1st year B.Sc nursing students like types of O2 masks,
injection sites, methods of medication administration, the procedure of TPR, BP, nebulization
procedure, first aid kit, etc. The tray prepared by 1st-year students are kept in the lab like the
emergency tray, medication administration tray, ICU set up, and hospital set up.
Activities : The students are doing all the basic nursing procedures like bed bath, CPR, IV cannula insertion,
IV therapy, hair care, NG tube insertion, eye, and ear irrigation, colostomy care, tracheotomy
care catheterization, etc.
They are used to study the instruments which are used in hospital tray set up, maintaining, and
aseptic technique during the procedure, etc.
They are allowed to issue the articles for the procedure. This all activities are done for
encouraging the students to be a functional and skill full nurse.
